The Ogre River is a significant tributary of the Daugava, which historically was a salmon and lamprey river. However, after the construction of the Riga HPP, migration of these fish from the sea has ceased.
There are 3 HPP dams on Ogre river, but local fish populations have been preserved, making it a potentially important site for salmon and lamprey reintroduction.
Key planned activities
- Salmon and lamprey reintroduction programme
- HPP obstacle impact assessment
- Habitat quality improvement
- Fish population monitoring
