The Iecava river is located in the Lielupe river basin. It is significantly affected by HPP operations, regulations and potentially illegal barriers (e.g. stone piles). Key protected species: river lamprey and other fish species dependent on free migration.

  • Construction of a natural-type fishway at the Grienvaldes/Iecava HPP dam, which will "open" approximately 250 km in the Iecava and its tributaries for fish migration
  • Innovative flow regime control (BESS) to reduce the impact of HPP-induced fluctuations
  • Removal of small barriers in at least 4 locations
