This year's festival theme is "Where the Meadow Meets the Garden", highlighting the relationship between people and nature. The festival will offer a wide range of educational and engaging activities for visitors of all ages.
From 12:00 to 18:00, the Knowledge Zone will invite visitors to explore various aspects of the natural world. The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC) will welcome guests to the Water Tent, featuring interactive activities presented by experts from two LIFE projects: LIFE GoodWater IP and LIFE RiverFlow. The leading partner of both projects is the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Researchers from the University of Latvia and the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre will give visitors the opportunity to discover aquatic life "under the magnifying glass," while experts from the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre will explain how algae can act as environmental superheroes by helping to reduce nutrient pollution in water bodies. Younger festival visitors will also find plenty to enjoy through interactive games and educational activities designed especially for children.
While LIFE GoodWater IP is participating in the Meadow Festival for the fourth consecutive year, LIFE RiverFlow will be joining the festival for the first time. Project representatives from the Baltic Coasts Association will invite visitors to take part in the interactive game "Free the River!", where they can learn how different river barriers affect fish migration and river ecosystems, and discover why free-flowing rivers are important for both nature and people.
In addition to the Knowledge Zone, the festival programme will include workshops, masterclasses and lectures on biodiversity, gardening, art and psychology. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore a special market featuring products from natural grasslands, brought by farmers from across Latvia.
The festival will conclude at 19:00 with a concert by the band Alejas in the concert meadow of the University of Latvia Botanical Garden. Tickets for the event are available HERE(opens in new tab).
